Allianz relies on matchmaker as central search technology

With the help of an error-tolerant, high-performance database search, a significant acceleration of the processes and an increase in productivity were to be achieved, among other things.

Initial situation

The central database contains over 600 million policyholder, contract and claims data. Every year, around 30 million documents reach Allianz by mail - some structured, some unstructured, some incomplete, some with inaccurate information.

The first processing step is the digitization and thus the proper assignment of documents to insured persons and contracts. The matching and assignment between each individual document and the central database is partly manual, partly automated, and requires the use of a powerful search engine. Approximately 400 employees in the incoming mail processing department access the database via the search. In the next project step, approximately 7,000 call center and clerical staff will be added.

Goals

With the help of an error-tolerant, high-performance database search, a significant acceleration of processes and an increase in productivity were to be achieved, among other things. Objectives such as a massive boost in assignment automation and a strong improvement in processing quality with a simultaneous reduction in processing time per case were also on the agenda.

No one finds faster, no one finds better.

Evaluation

In the selection process, the necessary requirements for the search application were examined: the automation potential for automatic database searches and the advantages for manual searches. Due to the large amount of data, other criteria such as technology and software architecture, scalability, usability/admin-user interfaces, quality and the speed of error tolerance were important. Seven internationally renowned search applications were evaluated. After extensive testing, a proof-of-concept was conducted with two vendors as a test under real-world conditions. In the end, it was clear that exorbyte was the leader in all test criteria, such as recognition quality, performance, flexibility, cost-effectiveness and suitability of the system architecture for the task.

The Project

First, the database was specially prepared and the index significantly optimized. Then the search engine was individually configured and implemented. In the first project phase, the optimized data search was implemented for the employees of the incoming mail department. exorbyte met all project specifications and provided solutions for various additional requirements that arose during the project.

Success all along the line

All commercial and non-commercial goals have been achieved. Productivity and automation have increased significantly. ROI on this project was achieved in well under a year.
